Mom-to-be Angelina Jolie is all smiles at the Grand Hotel Du Cap-Ferrat in Cannes, France on Thursday. Life & Style reports that Brad and Angie will spend at least $20 million in France on security, medical costs and shelter for their growing brood (twins).

“Brad and Angelina love all their children and will do everything to protect them and keep them healthy,” an insider says. “Money is no object when it comes to the kids.”
The couple is also rumored to fly her ob-gyn, Dr. Jason Rothbart, to France at a cost of about $98,000. (They flew him out to Namibia to help with.

Angelina Jolie: I feel so much more for my adopted kids

Angelina Jolie admits she has stronger feelings for her adopted kids than her daughter Shiloh. The actress thinks Maddox, 7, Pax, 4, and Zahara, 3, have had more to deal with in their short lives. ‘I think I feel so much more for Maddox and Zahara because they are survivors,’ she explains. ‘Shiloh seems so privileged from the moment she was born, I have less inclination to feel for her. ‘I met my other kids when they were six months old, they came with a personality. A newborn really is this…blob!’ But Ange, 32, says she’s careful not to treat Shiloh, who turns 2 this month, differently.

‘I have to make sure that I don’t ignore her needs, just because I think the others are more vulnerable,’ she tells OK!
Ange adopted Maddox from Cambodia in 2002. Three years later, she took on Zahara, who she met in an Ethiopian children's home. Pax was abandoned at birth by his mum in Vietnam, so Ange adopted him in March last year. She is thought to be expecting twins with partner Brad Pitt, 44, this summer.

Angelina Jolie’s Chubby Ankles Spark Pregnancy Health Scare

Voluptuous skeleton Angelina Jolie and boyfriend Bradley Pitt considered making an emergency landing as they flew to Los Angeles from the set of his latest film. That kind of makes it sound like they were flying the plane themselves; they weren’t, but feel free to imagine they were. Hecklerspray imagines that they were flying the plane because the pilot got so shocked, being in the company of their overwhelming sexiness, that he had a heart-attack and, as they were the only two on board, Brad the slightly more male, Brad is forced to take the wheel, looking sexy as he does so, whilst Angelina tries to regain her composure, looking sexy as she does so.

Then, as they realise they literally have no idea how to fly a plane, hurtling toward a mountain peak, they rip each others clothes off and synchronise their climaxes with the horrific explosion.
But no; it were just a swollen ankle injury that got ’swollener’ in the sky. A source, with the vocabulary of your average Guy Ritchie character, told Life & Style magazine: “Her legs were swelling and she was getting really wobbly and starting to feel sick. Jolie insisted they continue on to LA, so she could see her own doctor. At first she thought it was just a twisted ankle or something. But everyone was worried because of the pregnancy and previous problems she’s had with leg swelling.”

Angelina has reportedly been swimming in a slightly acidic pool of health worries since her fallopians hosted the annual egg and spoon race. She has since agreed to treatment on the advice of her “medical team”.
The source then confirmed, to any doubters out there, that Brad Pitt was genuinely worried about his pregnant wife’s frightening pain: “Angelina didn’t want to take any chances, and everyone agreed. Brad was really worried.” Bet you thought he was laughing at her, didn’t you? Pointing and mocking, prodding her swollen body, then lighting a cigarette and putting it out on her eyes, looking damn sexy throughout. But no, he was just ‘really worried’. Everything seems fine now.

Introducing Angelina Jolie as a 16-year-old swimsuit model

The bee-stung lips, bedroom eyes and long dark locks were obviously there from the beginning.

But these pictures of Angelina Jolie, taken when she was 16, highlight just what has changed since she became a star.

Though she clearly missed out on puppy fat, the teenage Miss Jolie did have rounded hips and soft fleshy arms.

Today, they have gone the same way as those of any other A-lister - to mostly skin and bone. At the same time, interestingly, her chest size has increased.

Angelina Jolie refers to pregnancy for first time in public

ANGELINA Jolie has spoken in public about her obvious pregnancy for the first time, months after reports first appeared that the Oscar-winner is expecting twins with Brad Pitt.
The actress and UN goodwill ambassador was in Washington DC for a discussion on Iraq's education policy on Tuesday when she got a playful nudge from her unborn.

Speaking after the talk, she said: "I felt kicking suddenly in the middle of the event."
Jolie, who was joined in the US capital by her adopted sons, six-year-old Maddox, and Pax, four, added: "It is a very special time in our lives." Despite the interruption, Jolie continued to talk passionately about her two visits to war-torn Iraq and urged the international community to make education a priority.

The actress told the Council on Foreign Relations: "The best way to heal children of conflict from trauma is to have them focus on their future.
"Every child has a right to education and conflict is not a reason to ignore that." Jolie - who also has an adopted daughter, three-year-old Zahara, and a 22-month-old biological daughter, Shiloh, with Pitt - then spoke about her new initiative, Education Partnership for Children of Conflict. She explained the EPCC would be "a centre that helps raise awareness and coordinate all the various efforts of people working towards education for children of conflict".

Study finds Clinton related to Jolie and Obama to Pitt

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - The presidential candidates may have star qualities -- and they also have stars in their families, according to a genealogical study linking Hillary Clinton to Angelina Jolie and Barack Obama to Brad Pitt.

The New England Historic Genealogical Society (NEHGS) in Boston on Wednesday released a study in which it traced the family trees of all three presidential candidates to find they all had famous relatives, both dead and alive.

It found Illinois Senator Barack Obama, whose mother is from Kansas, can claim at least six U.S. presidents as distant cousins, including George W. Bush and his father, Gerald R. Ford, Lyndon B. Johnson, Harry S. Truman, and James Madison.

But other cousins include British Prime Minister Sir Winston Churchill -- and Brad Pitt who is a ninth cousin linked back Edwin Hickman who died in Virginia in 1769.
"Obama's maternal ancestry includes the mid-Atlantic States and the South," said Christopher Child, a genealogist with NEHGC that dates back to 1845 and describes itself as the United States oldest and largest non-profit genealogical organization.

Meanwhile his Democratic rival, New York Senator Hillary Clinton, shares a common ancestor with Pitt's partner, actress Angelina Jolie. Clinton and Jolie are ninth cousins twice removed linked by Jean Cusson of St. Sulpice, Quebec, who died in 1718.

Child said Clinton is also a cousin of a number of famous people with French Canadian ancestry, including Madonna (ninth cousins linked by Pierre Gagne of Quebec who died in 1656) Celine Dion, and Alanis Morissette, as well as author Jack Kerouac. Another cousin is Camilla Parker-Bowles, wife of Prince Charles.
"It is common to find people of French Canadian descent to be related to large numbers of other French Canadians, including these notables," said Child in a statement.

'Ideal of the yummy mummy is unattainable'

The "yummy mummy" is an unattainable ideal that puts too much pressure on modern mothers, a study has revealed.

The report found that celebrity "role models" such as Victoria Beckham were making mothers feel inadequate.

Almost 70 per cent felt pressure to juggle family life with a successful career, while always looking perfectly groomed.

Eighty-one per cent of mothers felt pressure to look sexy for their partner; 37 per cent felt pressure to be a successful career woman.

Forty-two per cent voted Mrs Beckham the most unrealistic role model. She was followed by Angelina Jolie - 11 per cent.

Sixty-seven per cent believed they were seen purely as a mother as opposed to a woman.
The findings come from two surveys, carried out by YouGov and Netmums, for Nivea Soft.

Jolie: Internally displaced Iraqis need more help

BAGHDAD (Reuters) - Hollywood star and humanitarian activist Angelina Jolie appealed on Thursday for more international help for the millions of Iraqis displaced internally and abroad, U.N. officials said. Jolie, a goodwill ambassador for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), met officials from the United Nations, the U.S. embassy and the U.S. military in central Baghdad's heavily fortified Green Zone.

"She's here in her official capacity to talk to government officials, the military and the United Nations about Iraq's refugees and displaced persons," Staffan de Mistura, the U.N. envoy to Baghdad, told Reuters. Jolie also visited Iraq last August, when she went to a makeshift camp for internally displaced people (IDPs) and met Iraqi refugees in Damascus, capital of neighboring Syria.

She said she wanted more information about IDPs and to discuss the problem with the Iraqi government, U.S. officials and aid workers, as well as to meet local Iraqis. "There are over 2 million internally displaced people and there doesn't seem to be a real coherent plan to help them," Jolie told CNN. "There's lots of goodwill and lots of discussion but there seems to be just a lot of talk at the moment and a lot of pieces need to be put together," she said.

Some 2.2 million Iraqis have fled sectarian fighting which killed tens of thousands after the bombing of a revered Shi'ite shrine in February 2006 and pushed Iraq to the brink of civil war. The Iraqi Red Crescent estimates that between 1.5 million and 2 million Iraqis fled to Syria, most of the others going to Jordan. Roughly the same number are displaced within Iraq.

"I was very impressed by the fact that she was extremely well informed and well documented about the plight of refugees in Iraq and outside Iraq," de Mistura said after meeting Jolie for about 30 minutes. "She asked how can all of us make sure that refugees are better treated," he said. An Iraqi Red Crescent (IRC) report on Thursday said that the number of IDPs returning to their homes had slowed significantly because people were still worried about security. A UNHCR report this week said the flow of refugees from Syria back to Iraq had also slowed, and that more Iraqis were leaving than returning.

The IRC says 46,000 refugees returned from Syria between September 15 and December 27, 2007, far fewer than government figures indicate. Iraqi officials, eager to play up signs of improving security, said last November that up to 1,600 were returning to Iraq daily, but now they say the situation is not clear and a more accurate survey is being planned. The UNHCR report said most of those returning were doing so not because of improved security but because they could no longer afford to live in Syria.

Angelina Jolie – Staring at Strangers “Was the Hardest Thing to Lose”

Angelina Jolie may be one of the most recognized actresses in the world but that doesn't mean she likes being famous. The 32-year-old star recently admitted that her favorite pastime used to be staring at strangers on the subway. Angie seems very torn up about the fact that she can't watch people go about their everyday lives, claiming "it was the hardest thing to lose." "My favorite thing used to be to just sit on the subway and watch people; just walking by myself everywhere and living among people and watching them," says the Tomb Raider star.

"I lost that," she adds. "It was the hardest thing to lose, and I think that does affect you." Jolie, who recently flew to Iraq to meet with the Iraqi Prime Minister and Iraqi officials concerning the two million people who are in dire need of help, has been under extreme amounts of scrutiny lately as the media tries to find out whether she's pregnant. Her humanitarian efforts, combined with the fact that she's practically married to Hollywood's hottest actor, Brad Pitt, makes it seemingly impossible for Jolie to stay out of the public eye.

But she wants the attention; otherwise she wouldn't continue to attend red carpet events, star in high profile movies or do interviews with CNN to raise awareness. Being a public figure has worked in her advantage on many occasions - she should appreciate what she's been given.

Depp & Jolie are the dishes of the day this Valentine’s

Hollywood stars Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie have topped a poll by kitchen manufacturer and retailer Sigma 3 of celebrities Britons would most like to cook for on Valentine’s Day.

But it’s a different story when being cooked for, as Britons would prefer TV chefs Gordon Ramsey and Nigella Lawson to don their aprons and cook up a storm for them on February 14th.

Sweeney Todd star Depp compounded David Beckham’s miserable month after his axe from the England squad by polling 28% of the vote, just 1% more than the L.A. Galaxy footballer. Sean Connery was top of the menu when women over 40 were asked who they would most like to cook for, polling 31% of the vote. Almost a third of men decided Angelina Jolie would look great sat at their dining table, beating Oscar winner Helen Mirren into second place (26%).

When it came to being cooked for, Britons let their taste-buds rule over Hollywood glamour with half of women choosing Gordon Ramsey as the ideal Valentine’s chef and three quarters of men deciding Nigella Lawson would look great in an apron on the special day.

However, the likely reality facing couples across the country this Valentine’s Day was not on many people’s wish-lists; just 7% of women said they would most like to cook for their partners alongside just 3% of men.

Paula Morris, Marketing Manager, Sigma 3 commented, “It’s no surprise that Britons picked two dishes in Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie as the two people they would most like to cook for this Valentine’s Day. Their taste-buds definitely ruled when choosing the person they would most like to cook for them, but in Nigella Lawson I think the boys might have the best of both worlds!”

No Oscar nominations for Angelina Jolie or 'The Simpsons'

ANGELINA, INTERRUPTED: Angelina Jolie seemed like a lock in the best-actress category for "A Mighty Heart," in which she gave a wrenching performance as Mariane Pearl, the widow of slain journalist Daniel Pearl. The role has earned her Golden Globe, Screen Actors Guild and Spirit Award nominations, and it's probably the best work of her career. But she isn't among the nominees for best actress at the Academy Awards, and the film itself was shut out entirely. Jolie already has a supporting-actress Oscar for 1999's "Girl, Interrupted."

NOT TAKING THE OSCAR BAIT: A couple of films that would have seemed like traditional academy favorites were barely recognized. "American Gangster" only received two nominations, for supporting actress Ruby Dee and for its art direction—nothing for Oscar perennials Denzel Washington, Russell Crowe or director Ridley Scott. And "The Kite Runner," based on the inspiring international best-seller, got just one, for original score.

DOUBLING UP. And sometimes tripling and quadrupling:

Cate Blanchett received two nominations for best actress in "Elizabeth: The Golden Age" and for supporting actress in "I'm Not There." The great Roger Deakins is competing against himself in the cinematography category for "The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford" and "No Country for Old Men."

The veteran music team behind "Enchanted" and many other Disney movies—Alan Menken and Stephen Schwartz—received three out of the five original-song nominations. Paul Thomas Anderson also got three for "There Will Be Blood," for best director, adapted screenplay and best picture (he's one of the producers). And technically, the Coen brothers received four nominations—for best picture since they're producers on "No Country for Old Men," for director and adapted screenplay, and for editing under their longtime pseudonym, Roderick Jaynes.

LADIES FIRST: A record four screenplays were nominated in which women can claim sole writing credit: "Juno" by Diablo Cody, "The Savages" by Tamara Jenkins and "Lars and the Real Girl" by Nancy Oliver in the original category, and "Away From Her" by Sarah Polley in the adapted category. It's also the first Oscar nomination for all four.

JOLIE'S 'MIGHTY' ACT OF FRIENDSHIP

Angelina Jolie was friends with Mariane Pearl before portraying her. The actress took the role for Pearl's young son. NOBODY crosses a room like Angelina Jolie. She cut a purposeful stride across the polished floor of a Hollywood Roosevelt suite, a feat especially impressive because she was doing it in 4-inch heels and a pencil skirt. It was noon on a warm November day, weeks before Jolie's restrained and moving portrayal of real-life journalist Mariane Pearl in "A Mighty Heart" would land her nominations for Golden Globe and Screen Actors Guild awards. The role reminded audiences of the Oscar-winning actress' formidable talent, telling the wrenching story of Wall Street Journal reporter Daniel Pearl's 2002 kidnapping -- and the race to find him before his killing in Pakistan by Islamic extremists -- from the perspective of his pregnant wife.

Jolie had recently returned from the London premiere of her much-hyped nearly nude role in the computer-generated adaptation of "Beowulf," and had just wrapped two high-profile films: "Wanted," a graphic novel adaptation opening in June in which she plays an assassin, and "Changeling," a Clint Eastwood-directed, Brian Grazer-produced period crime drama. But her most pressing concern at the moment was timing her day's work to end just as her children needed to be picked up from school. Jolie, 32, acknowledged that no matter who you are, wrangling life with four kids (in her case, Maddox, 6; Pax, 4; Zahara, 3; and Shiloh, 1) is no walk in the park. She said she couldn't do it alone.

"I have a great partner in it," she said of Brad Pitt. "I think you need at least to look at that other person and share the lack of sleep and insanity. And then it becomes fun." On this afternoon, Jolie seemed to have eluded the ever-swarming paparazzi. It was quiet in and around her room except for the chatter of a few vacationers at the pool below. She perched her very thin frame on a sleek white leather sofa with the careful demeanor of a guest. The conversation turned intimate as Jolie began charting the emotional, sometimes awkward, process of portraying her close friend Mariane Pearl, during the most heartbreaking moments of the journalist's life. It was the toughest role of her career, Jolie said. Pearl's son Adam and Jolie's Maddox were playmates long before a film was in the works. So when Pearl chose her for the role, Jolie was both honored and terrified.

"It was the one film I've done where I'd lost sleep and didn't think I could do it," she said. The film, based on Pearl's 2003 memoir, "A Mighty Heart: The Inside Story of the Al Qaeda Kidnapping of Danny Pearl," was directed by Michael Winterbottom. Focusing largely on the frantic search for Pearl (Dan Futterman), the film was shot mostly in India, documentary-style, with no rehearsals, very long takes and, for the most part, in chronological order. The shoot coincided with an especially difficult time for Jolie. The actress had just given birth to her first biological child and then, shortly after, lost her mother, Marcheline Bertrand, to a 7-year battle with ovarian cancer. But Jolie was clear that her own loss was mild compared with Pearl's story. "My thought was, 'My God, [Mariane] went through such unbelievable horror,' " Jolie said, the intensity of her gaze almost too intimate. " 'I can certainly get myself in gear and pretend on a movie set."

Angelina Jolie Shows Baby Shiloh Some Love

Poor little baby Shiloh. She has been the butt of jokes ever since her mother Angelina Jolie called her a "blob" and was quoted again later as dubbing her the "outcast" of the family because she is such an adorable little infant and looks like her daddy Brad Pitt with her blonde hair and blue eyes. Now the little baby may finally be getting some love from mom, who was recently snapped by the paparazzi holding her and allowing the little to snack on some potato chips.

Us Weekly Magazine reports that as Shiloh has grown from the blob into a "beautiful, genetically blessed 19-month-old with lips from Mom, eyes from dad Brad Pitt' and speculates that she is set to be the next Hollywood "Golden child." And finally got some compliments from her mom.

"Shi’s so full of light and love. She’s just a little honey and very, very funny,” Jolie, 32, said earlier. And despite keeping a lower profile than her other siblings, Shiloh was just named Hollywood’s most influential infant by Forbes. But watch out, Brad and Angie: It’s not just your looks and clout you’ve passed on. “I’m recognizing some of myself in that one,” Jolie admitted earlier this year. “She’s going to be a little bit of trouble.” Anyone else think perhaps Jolie is already a bit jealous?

Jolie good show!

From the courtroom to the streets of the city, it was lights-camera-action in Chicago in 2007. Angelina Jolie proved she's still the most "Wanted" star in the world, Shia LaBeouf became perhaps the first movie star ever to get into late-night trouble at a Walgreens, we found out the truth behind those "Casino" murders, and we quickly learned that "Rory's First Kiss" involved neither a Rory nor a kiss -- but it did include one scary-looking Joker. And we saw perhaps the least convincing portrayal of a Chicago cop in motion picture history. Let's take a look back at the year in film -- from movie-related news in the Chicago area to the best of what we saw on the big screen in 2007.

"Attention, customers, there's no line at the cosmetics counter -- hey, isn't that the guy from 'Transformers'?" After giving countless interviews in which he vowed not to follow the path of Lindsay and Britney et al., an apparently extra-"cheerful" Shia LaBeouf was arrested at the Walgreens on Michigan and Chicago at 2:30 a.m. on a Saturday night/Sunday morning. LaBeouf was in town filming "Eagle Eye" with Billy Bob Thornton, whose ex-wife was filming a movie of her own in Chicago earlier in the year. (More on that in a moment.) Just think, if LaBeouf had returned to that Michigan Avenue Walgreens a week later, he could have purchased magazines with stories about his adventure at that same store. Or something like that.

Angelina Jolie a great role model

Celebrities like Angelina Jolie, David Beckham and Kylie are more influential role models than famous historical figures, a new study has shown. Research carried out at the University of Leicester's department of media and communication found that the legacies of the likes of Winston Churchill, William Shakespeare and Isaac Newton are less significant to today's youngsters than the Tomb Raider star, the England footballer or the Australian pop singer.

Dr Charlotte de Backer - whose research is published in the journal Human Nature - found that the high publicity afforded to households like the Jolie-Pitts or the Beckhams makes them 'teachers' for the young. She said: "Life is about learning, gaining experience and in that process we have a tendency to observe and mimic the actions of others. Ideally we mimic what makes others successful and avoid unsuccessful actions others have trialled (and paid for).

"In reality, humans seem to have the tendency to mimic the overall behaviour pattern of higher status or more successful others. "This explains why celebrities act as role models for broad ranges of behaviour they display - good or bad." Her study of 800 respondents also found that older people are interested in celebrities for purely social reasons rather than because of any specific interest in Lindsay Lohan's latest spell in rehab or Britney Spears' latest run-in with the paparazzi.

"We did find in the interviews that older people do not gossip about celebrities as much because they want to learn from them or feel befriended with them, but they use celebrity gossip to bond with real-life friends and acquaintances," Dr De Backer added. "Living in scattered societies we often don't know who to talk about with the many people we know and celebrities can act as our mutual friends and acquaintances."

Angelina Jolie lined up for intelligence thriller: report

Angelina Jolie is being lined up to star in a film inspired by the exploits of an investigator probing the murky worlds of arms trafficking and terrorism, entertainment industry reports said Wednesday. Jolie, recently seen in "A Mighty Heart" and "Beowulf," will play a character based on real-life spy Kathi Lynn Austin, who has undertaken field missions in Africa, Europe, Southeast Asia and Central America.

Variety reported Paramount Studios had acquired the rights to Austin's story and were hoping the Jolie film could inspire a series of movies similar to the successful "Bourne Identity" franchise. Jolie is currently filming Clint Eastwood drama "The Changeling," about a woman whose son goes missing in 1920s Los Angeles. The 32-year-old is reportedly Hollywood's highest earning actress along with Reese Witherspoon, commanding around 15-20 million dollars per picture.

Jolie adopted a rape victim’s baby

The Ethiopian baby adopted by Hollywood actor Angelina Jolie was conceived when her mother was raped, the woman revealed this week. Mentwabe Dawit, mother of 2-year-old Zahara, tearfully described how she had been attacked and raped at knifepoint in 2004 after walking home from work in the southern Ethiopian town of Awasa. “

He pulled a dagger, put one hand on my mouth, so that I could not scream. He then raped me and disappeared,” the Daily Mail quoted Mentwabe as saying. The 24-year-old said that she kept her pregnancy and rape a secret, until she could no longer hide it. “

I feared the consequences of being raped in a community where rape is considered a taboo, even if what happened happened forcibly,” she said. As her belly swelled, Mentwabe could no longer hide her pregnancy and confided in her mother. “ It was not as I feared. I found my mother understanding and consoling. She urged me not to do anything rash, which might endanger my life.”

Jolie had no idea about daughter Zahara`s birth mum

Angelina Jolie’s brother James Haven insists that the star was not aware that her Ethiopian daughter Zahara’s birth mother was alive. Haven insisted that Jolie had no idea that Zahara’s biological mother Mentewab Dawit Lebiso was alive because the paperwork had stated that the little girl was an AIDS orphan. He also maintained to Britain’s Grazia magazine that Jolie would not have adopted the little girl if she had known about Lebiso.

"Angelina has a rule that she adopts children only when they are orphans. I think adoption becomes complicated whenever the biological parents are alive," Contactmusic quoted him, as telling the mag. For her part, Lebiso has dismissed reports that she wants the little girl back, stating that she’s happy that her child is being raised by Jolie and her partner Brad Pitt.

"I have never disputed the adoption... I have no ill feelings towards her (Jolie). I think my daughter is a very fortunate human being to be adopted by a world-famous lady. I wish them all the success they both deserve," she said.

Angelina Jolie Returns To Spying

What the heck has happened to Angelina Jolie? In the space of just a couple of years she’s gone from great actress and hottest woman on the planet to that emaciated scarecrow who keeps holding Brad Pitt back. She’s started to look like one of the starving kids she’s always championing. Just becase you’re in Ethiopia Angie doesn’t mean you have to eat like an Ethiopian. Grab a pizza or something, will ya?

It doesn’t help that her choices in movie roles have ranged from preachy and uninteresting to splashy and repetitive. Doesn’t look like that’s going to change either. Now she’s doing yet another spy movie. Variety says she’s set to star in an action thriller based on real life intelligence operative Kathi Lynn Austin for Paramount.

Austin has traveled the glob as an intelligence operative, most recently working under contract to the UN Security Council in Africa, Europe, Asia, and Central America. The film will have Angelina as Austin facing off against a fictional arms dealer also inspired by a real life figure, a Russian weapons trafficker named Victor Bout. It’s being described as similar in spirit to The Bourne Identity, which is putting the bar pretty high for Angelina’s movie.

Jolie de vivre

Here's what happens in the movie Beowulf: After an attack by the monster Grendel (Crispin Hellion Glover) on King Hrothgar's (Anthony Hopkins) kingdom, the warrior Beowulf (Ray Winstone) and his band of muscle-men come to his aid. As if that's not dangerous enough, family gets involved. Grendel's fierce, sexy mother (Angelina Jolie) seduces Beowulf so she'll have a replacement heir that will allow her to re-establish her dominion over the kingdom. We don't want to give anything away - suffice it to say that at the end of the movie, justice is served. Kind of.

After all, the screenplay is written by Neil Gaiman (The Sandman) and Roger Avary (Killing Zoƫ) - two guys for whom the word "conventional" has no place in their vocabulary. Still, it's no mean feat converting an epic, 3,183-line, Old English-but-set-in-Scandinavia poem into two hours of action-packed animation, so of course there are dramatic liberties being taken - which purists will no doubt enjoy bemoaning.

For example, in the poem, Beowulf gets ample help from his men, but in the movie, it's all Beowulf. And here's the kicker: Jolie as Grendel's mum is far different from the "hag" described in the poem (And if Jolie is a hag, I'm Brad Pitt). And what about all that fake nudity? I guess when he "fought with his bare hands", he didn't want to over-accessorise.

But let's get back to the what's important in a movie like this: Action and gore, of which there is enough here to warrant an NC-16 rating. Easy on the eye and not taxing on the brain, Beowulf is the kind of movie you can enjoy over and over again. Okay, so we just want to drool over Jolie's naked body - who cares if it's fake?
